The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday received the body of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East, upon arrival from London, United Kingdom, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,
Wike was accompanied by senior political figures and family members, including the senator’s wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children, in a solemn reception marking the end of arrangements to return his body home.
Among those present were the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; Senator Philip Aduda; House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda; and Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor.
According to a post on X by the minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 5:30 a.m. to receive the remains. Mpigi died in London on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.
The FCT minister had earlier travelled to London last week to condole with the family and assist with arrangements for the repatriation, following the senator’s death.
