Rivers Gov dismisses reports on removing Tinubu’s portrait

By Asuquo Cletus

The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the removal of President Bola  Tinubu’s official portrait from the Government House.

The government described the claim as false and misleading, urging residents to consider it as antics of the positions.

The government, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications,  Kuru Sirawoo, it stated that the allegation was unsupported by verifiable facts.

The report, attributed to a member of the Rivers State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Bestman  Amadi, accused the governor of showing disrespect and ingratitude to the President.

Reacting, Sirawoo said the Rivers State Government had no policy, directive or action aimed at undermining President Tinubu or the Federal Government.

He noted that Governor Fubara maintains a cordial and collaborative relationship with the President and remains aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has continued to yield tangible benefits for Rivers State.

“The insinuation that the Governor acted out of disrespect is baseless and should be discountenanced,” the statement read.

The permanent secretary also faulted the youth group for what he described as the use of incendiary language and unsubstantiated claims, warning that such rhetoric could heighten tension and threaten peace in the state.

He urged individuals and groups to exercise restraint and uphold responsible public discourse in the interest of stability and good governance.
