Rivers Deputy Gov., SSG resigns from PDP

The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Odu, and the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Benibo Anabraba, have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the lingering internal crisis in the party.

While Odu has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anabraba is yet to disclose the party he intends to join in the near future, although there has been speculation that he may defect to the ruling party.

The duo left the PDP nearly one month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the majority of state and federal lawmakers from Rivers State defected from the PDP to the APC.

According to Fubara, his decision to defect from the PDP to the APC was motivated by the need to align the state with President Bola Tinubu’s political direction and ensure a harmonious working relationship with the federal government.

In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, formally ending his membership of the party, Anabraba attributed his decision to personal reasons.

“I have decided to resign from the PDP for personal reasons. I appreciate the political leverage gained from the party during the period of my membership,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Odu completed her registration formalities on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state and thereafter toured the six zones of the LGA to sensitise residents on the ongoing APC e-registration exercise.

This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday by the Head of the Press Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benebo, and made available to newsmen.

Addressing stakeholders shortly after her registration, Odu explained that the APC e-registration exercise was ongoing following Fubara’s declaration of his decision to join the party a few weeks ago.

She urged residents of the area to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara by registering en masse with the APC.

“The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” she said, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to facilitate the exercise.
