The Police Service Commission (PSC) has denied claims of delays in the promotion of police inspectors who participated in the 2025 Departmental Selection Board (DSB) exercise, describing the allegations as misleading and based on unverified anonymous sources.
The Commission said the report misrepresented its processes and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and merit-based promotions within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), stressing that promotions are guided by established procedures and processed in line with statutory timelines and available resources.
This was contained in a press statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, in response to a report published by a news organisation on January 21, 2026, alleging prolonged delays in the promotion of inspectors who passed the 2025 DSB exercise.
The PSC clarified that all officers who participated in the exercise were duly informed through official channels about the status of their evaluations, contrary to claims of “total silence” and “no explanation,” adding that the Commission maintains comprehensive records of such communications.
It explained that promotions for senior officers and inspectors follow different procedural tracks, noting that senior-level promotions often involve fewer candidates and streamlined reviews, while inspector-level promotions cover larger numbers and require additional layers of verification, including background checks and performance audits across commands.
According to the Commission, the 2025 DSB exercise, conducted in December 2025, was successfully concluded, and the processing of results is ongoing in line with administrative and fiscal cycles, with efforts intensified to finalise and announce the promotions in the coming days.
The PSC also dismissed claims of widespread demoralisation, threats of early retirement, or loss of confidence among junior officers, describing such assertions as speculative and not reflective of the general mood within the Force.
Reaffirming its commitment to personnel welfare and career progression, the Commission, under the leadership of its Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, and in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, assured that promotions would continue to be conducted without favouritism and with due diligence to ensure integrity and equity.
The PSC urged media organisations to verify facts before publication to avoid spreading potentially divisive reports capable of undermining public confidence in public institutions, assuring stakeholders of continued professionalism in service delivery.
