Sharma Oli has resigned from his duties as Prime Minister of Nepal.
Oli, in a letter to the President of the country, Ram Paudel, notified of his withdrawal from service with immediate effect, stating that his decision was taken for the best interest of the country.
The Septuagenarian made the announcement just one day after a protest made by youths against the ban on social media which resulted in the death of 19 people and termed the deadliest crackdowns on protesters in years.
Oli’s letter, on Monday, reads in extracts, ”I have resigned from the post of prime minister with immediate effect from today… in order to take further steps towards a political solution and resolution of the problems.”
He is leaving office after beginning his fourth term last year after his Communist Party forged a coalition with the centre-left Nepali Congress in the often violent parliament.
