Police recovers stolen vehicle from robbery suspects in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime, following the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of suspects linked to the incident.

The development underscores the Command’s sustained crackdown on criminal activities, as operatives, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the suspects and the swift retrieval of the stolen car.

According to the police, the case originated from a complaint filed by one Adeyemi Robert, who reported that his Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number AH173WWD was stolen during a social event.

The incident occurred at Sijuade Street in Akure, where the complainant had parked the vehicle in front of the event venue before it was taken by unknown persons. Upon discovering the theft, he promptly reported the matter to the police.

Following the report, detectives launched an intensive investigation, deploying intelligence-gathering techniques and other strategic measures aimed at tracking down the vehicle and apprehending those responsible.

Their efforts paid off as the stolen vehicle was eventually traced to one Awolo Akingbade, a 40-year-old man found in possession of the car. He was immediately invited for questioning by the police.

Further investigations revealed that the vehicle had been sold to him by the principal suspect, identified as Adeyemi David, who was subsequently tracked down and arrested.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that preliminary findings indicate that the principal suspect allegedly stole the vehicle and disposed of it by selling it to the buyer.

He added that the recovered Toyota Camry has been secured at the police station as an exhibit, while both suspects have provided useful information to assist ongoing investigations.

Jimoh confirmed that the suspects have been charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment, which led to the successful recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.

He reiterated the Command’s resolve to ensure the safety of lives and property across Ondo State, warning individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner further emphasized that the police would continue to adopt intelligence-driven strategies to identify, track, and prosecute offenders.

The Command also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely, credible, and actionable information that can aid in preventing and combating crime across the state.
