Police nabs eight Lagos youngmen linked to cultism, robbery

The Lagos police command has apprehended no fewer than eight suspected cultists and armed robbers during raids in Odogunyan, Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.

These suspects, in police custody, were between the ages of 23 and 28 years, who were alleged to be behind the unrests and robbery attacks within the community.

The Lagos police command’s spokesman, Abimbola Adebisi, who disclosed this through a statement made available to newsmen Thursday, meanwhile withheld their names.

According to her, the suspects were apprehended at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday during an operation carried out to ensure safety of lives and property in Lagos.

“The operation was carried out by the Bullock Tactical Team following a credible intelligence report about criminal activities in the area.

“The team stormed a criminal hideout and apprehended eight suspects allegedly planning nefarious acts.

“Items recovered from them include a Nigerian military camouflage uniform, a battle axe, an assault dagger, several charms, and counterfeit $100 bills amounting to $3,000,” Adebisi added.

The spokesperson said that during interrogation, one of the suspects confessed to being the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in the area.

She added that the suspect also admitted to having handed over a locally made pistol to his colleague, who is now at large.

According to her, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover the firearm.

The female police officer that the commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, praised the operatives for their professionalism and swift action.

Jimoh, while commending the officers, reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
