Police hunt kidnappers after rescuing victim in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected kidnappers of a Dagga village resident after rescuing the victim from the kidnappers’ den in the state.

The manhunt began after police operatives intervened based on credible intelligence on the whereabouts of the suspects’ hideout, forcing them to abandon their captive and flee.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, was safely rescued without injuries in a swift operation following coordinated intelligence and security efforts.

According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, the abduction occurred in Dagga village within the Nabordo area in the early hours of January 3, 2026.

Acting on information provided by a concerned resident, operatives from the Nabordo Division, working alongside local hunters, mobilised promptly and confronted the kidnappers, leading to the victim’s release.

The statement explained that the operation was coordinated by the Divisional Police Officer, Muhammad Garba, noting that the suspects escaped during the encounter.

“Our men responded promptly and applied pressure that compelled the criminals to retreat, leaving the victim behind,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to track down the fleeing suspects, adding that surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts have been intensified to ensure their arrest.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, called on residents to sustain cooperation with security agencies, stressing that timely and reliable information remains critical to preventing crime and safeguarding communities.

“Public support is essential. When citizens speak up early, it enables us to act decisively,” he said.

Police authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, assuring residents that those involved in the abduction would be apprehended and prosecuted.
