Police dismisses report on Nasarawa schoolchildren abduction

By Awoniyi Ademide

The Nasarawa Police Command has pushed back against widespread rumours claiming that students were seized from a school in Nasarawa, insisting that no abduction took place and that the viral reports were driven by panic rather than fact.

The clarification follows reports suggesting that two pupils from St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, had been whisked away while taking part in sporting activities.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday, the alarm originated from a misunderstanding that quickly spiralled through social media, prompting frantic calls and unverified posts.

The officer explained that the situation was brought under control within minutes of their deployment, with no evidence supporting the alleged abduction.

The command further cautioned media organisations to verify sensitive security information before publication, noting that misleading reports can heighten public anxiety and impede security operations.

According to the statement, “The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the report is false and does not reflect the true state of affairs. On 21/11/2025 at about 1000hrs, an unverified report filtered in alleging that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy were abducted while engaging in sporting activities on the school field.

“In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, promptly deployed a combined team of Police operatives and military personnel stationed within the general area to the scene. On arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers.

The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored. The proprietor of the school was also interviewed and confirmed to the operatives that the alarm raised was a false one. The general area continues to be closely monitored to forestall any breach of security.
