Police deploys massive security ahead FCT council polls

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has deployed a combined team of security personnel in the thousands ahead of the February 21, 2026 Area Council Elections.

The deployment is part of a comprehensive operational plan designed to ensure security before, during, and after the elections.

The operation will be conducted in collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on behalf of the Command.

The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, urged officers deployed for the exercise to maintain the highest level of professionalism and ensure full security coverage at all polling units and collation centres to guarantee a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process.

He emphasized that personnel must remain vigilant, impartial, and courteous, while fully respecting the rights of citizens.

The Command also announced that a restriction of movement will be enforced across the FCT from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on February 21, 2026, except for essential service providers and duly accredited election officials.

Residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies and adhere to operational guidelines throughout the period.

The Police assured the public that adequate security arrangements have been made and encouraged residents to remain law-abiding and participate in the elections peacefully.

Members of the public were also advised to stay alert and report any suspicious persons or activities using the emergency numbers provided by the Command.
