The Kano Police Command has imposed a ban on all Sallah parade celebrations for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr festival, citing security threats and the risk of public disorder in the state.
Ban on the parade, as gathered, has been linked to an intelligent report by the Kano state police command that some miscreants are planning to use the parade to cause violence in the state.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori disclosed the decision on Friday while speaking to journalists at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.
According to Bakori, intelligence reports indicated that certain groups intended to exploit the parade festivities to incite unrest.
“To ensure a peaceful and secure celebration, and in light of rising tensions, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has carefully evaluated the situation and deemed it necessary to suspend all Durbar activities,” he stated.
He further explained that credible intelligence confirmed plans to use the event as a cover for disturbances, necessitating the ban across the state.
The Police Commissioner added that the decision followed extensive discussions with the Kano State Government and relevant stakeholders.
