Police arrests two gunrunners in Zamfara

Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have arrested two gunrunners and recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during routine stop-and-search duties at a checkpoint between Kotorkoshi and Tazame along the Gusau–Funtua Highway.

The suspects, Samaila Na’ibi and Samaila Aminu, were apprehended by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol (SHP) attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS) of the Command.

They were intercepted in a Golf vehicle with registration number ABUJA KUJ 893 CK, from which the two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, concealed inside a sack, were recovered.

Na’ibi is reportedly a resident of Kuya Village in Bungudu Local Government Area, while Aminu, who drove the vehicle, hails from Faskari Local Government Area in Katsina State.

According to a statement issued by DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, the suspects and the recovered weapons were taken into custody at the Kotorkoshi Divisional Police Headquarters immediately after the arrest.

He added that the duo and the exhibits will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation, after which appropriate legal action will be taken.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maikaba, assured residents that the Command would continue its fight against illegal firearms and other criminal activities, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to enhance security across the state.
