Police arrests seven suspects accuse of Rivers lawyer’s murder

By Jolayemi Olakunle

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested seven individuals allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Bright Owhor.

The suspects were apprehended about a month after Owhor, a 46-year-old legal practitioner, was shot dead at his residence along Market Road in the Rumuomasi area of Port Harcourt.

The seven male suspects accused of sending the legal practitioner followed a ten days of intensive investigation conducted by the police operatives.

They were identified as Prince Samuel, Daniel Godwin, Henry Peter, Godfrey Emmanuel, Chukwu Nneji, Justice Dimkpa, and Promise Wikere.

In a statement released on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the breakthrough was the result of meticulous intelligence gathering and advanced technical surveillance, which enabled officers to track down the suspects.

Iringe-Koko stated that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group.

“They admitted their direct involvement in the murder of Bright Owhor, as well as the unauthorized withdrawal of funds from his bank account,” she said.

The suspects also revealed their involvement in recent cult-related clashes between the BS and G12 factions of the Deygbam group in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that several items were recovered during the operation, including one MTN SIM card, four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, a mini bus, and a Toyota Camry sedan.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift action, noting that the arrests reflect the Command’s commitment to the safety and security of all residents.

“These operations reflect a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and ensure public confidence in law enforcement,” Adepoju said.
