Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have taken into custody a suspect involved in the kidnapping and gruesome killing of Grace Godwin, a 23-year-old fuel attendant in Abuja.
The suspect, 25-year-old Kabiru Abdullahi, is alleged to be one of the notorious kidnappers terrorizing commuters in the nation’s capital.
The suspect was allegedly part of a gang that abducted Grace Godwin after she boarded a commercial taxi operated by a one-chance syndicate while returning from work on July 11, 2025.
Her lifeless body was later found along Alex Ekwueme Street in Jabi the following day, prompting the special police unit to launch an intensive operation to track down those responsible for the killing.
According to the FCT Police Command, Abdullahi, a native of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State, was tracked down after weeks of investigation led by the Scorpion Squad under ACP Victor Godfrey.
A golden-colored Toyota Camry (pencil light), suspected to have been used in the abduction, was also recovered from the suspect.
Further investigations linked Abdullahi to 35-year-old Solomon Tanko, who had earlier been arrested on October 8, 2025, in Life Camp for another robbery and murder case involving a one-chance operation.
During interrogation, Abdullahi confessed to strangling the victim with a nylon bag after she reportedly bit his finger while attempting to escape.
He also revealed that the gang decided to kill her out of fear that she might recognize them, as they lived in the same Dape community.
The police confirmed that both men have confessed and are assisting with ongoing investigations to track down other gang members still at large.
Reacting to the arrest, the FCT Commissioner of Police praised the swift response of the Scorpion Squad, emphasizing that the Command remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks operating within the capital.
“This arrest is a clear demonstration of our commitment to rid Abuja of kidnappers and violent one-chance gangs and deliver justice for victims like Miss Godwin,” the commissioner said.
