Police arrests 44 hoodlums during Abuja blackspots raid

By Awoniyi Ademide

Determined to reduce crime across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, the Nigerian Police have apprehended no fewer than 44 hoodlums and destroyed several hideouts that had long posed serious threats to residents in the nation’s capital.

The arrests followed a series of intelligence-led raids aimed at dismantling criminal networks believed to be responsible for numerous incidents of theft, assault, and street robbery in parts of the FCT.

The operation is part of the police’s renewed efforts to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of residents ahead of the festive season.

Carried out by operatives from multiple divisions, including Nyanya, Kubwa, Kurudu, Life Camp, Apo, Karmo, Zuba, Byazhin, and Bwari, the coordinated raid, which took place around 11:45 p.m. yesterday, targeted uncompleted buildings, shanties, and other known blackspots commonly used by criminals as hideouts.

“The operation was carefully planned and executed to disrupt criminal activities before they escalate during the yuletide. We will not relent in ensuring Abuja remains safe for everyone,” said the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command.

Meanwhile, all arrested suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation at their respective divisions.

According to the command, those found culpable after investigation will be charged to court, while innocent individuals will be released after proper verification.
