Police arrest 105 drug peddlers, addicts in Jigawa

By Awoniyi Ademide

A major crackdown on illicit drug networks has led to the arrest of 105 individuals suspected of dealing in or being addicted to hard drugs in Jigawa State.

The arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance targeting major drug hubs across the state.

The suspects, comprising both dealers and users, were rounded up in simultaneous raids carried out at multiple locations.

The operation reportedly dealt a heavy blow to local drug rings that have long fueled addiction and criminal activity in the region.

Confirming the operation at the Command Headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, said officers “left no corner unchecked” in their bid to rid the state of drug-related crimes.

“This was not a random sweep; it was a carefully coordinated mission to dismantle drug supply chains and reclaim our communities from the grip of narcotics,” Adam stated.

During the raids, the operatives recovered over 5,000 narcotic and psychotropic substances, including 2,541 units of Exol, 1,146 units of D5, 270 packets of Tramadol, and more than 1,000 wraps of cannabis, as well as a full block of the same substance.

Other confiscated items included 269 tablets of Diaxer, 153 capsules of Pregabalin, and 82 units of a local substance known as Farin Malam.

The operation also uncovered quantities of Diazepam, Vegakris, and Calidon, alongside ₦92,460 in cash and other intoxicants such as “suck and die,” rubber solution, and bottles of dry gin.

According to Adam, the arrests are part of the command’s renewed effort to combat the spread of drugs and related offences in Jigawa communities.

“This breakthrough sends a strong message: no one involved in the drug trade or abuse will escape the reach of the law,” he warned.

He also called on residents to support ongoing efforts by providing credible intelligence to security agencies.

“The fight against drugs is everyone’s fight,” he added. “We urge citizens to stand with the police in keeping Jigawa safe and drug-free.”

The police confirmed that all suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged in court as soon as the process is concluded.
