Police arraigns Arsenal former player accuse of rape

The United Kingdom (UK) police has arraigned Ghana and English football club, Arsenal, former midfielder, Thomas Partey, before court over charges of rape and sexual assault on three women in the country.

Partey, who has denied the allegations, is facing prosecution of five counts of rape and sexual assault, was accused by the law enforcement agency for engaging in the act between 2021 and 2022.

The 32-year-old was secretly arrested in July 2022 but was later allowed to carry on his football career with the London club while investigation continued.

A Detective Superintendent, Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.”

In a statement, Partey’s lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, said, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.

“Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further.”
