The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from the party, stating that no formal resignation letter has been received.
This followed Adeleke’s statement on his official social media account, in which he confirmed that he submitted his resignation to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on 4 November 2025.
He explained that his decision to leave the party ahead of the poll was prompted by persistent leadership turmoil at the party’s national level.
However, the party’s acting National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, told journalists yesterday that, despite a widely circulated letter purportedly signed by Governor Adeleke announcing his exit, the PDP national secretariat has yet to receive any official communication from the governor.
“We have seen online a letter said to be from him resigning from our party, but I tell you that we have not, up to this moment, received any formal indication that he has left,” he said.
Turaki noted that while the online letter has fueled public discussion, Adeleke’s name remains on the official list of aspirants for the party’s Osun governorship primaries.
He emphasized that the South-West’s governor, like any citizen, has the constitutional right to decide his political affiliation, but stressed that such decisions do not weaken the party.
“As far as we are concerned, even if the letter circulating online is genuine, Gov. Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the freedom to associate as he wishes,” Turaki said.
The PDP National Chairman added that the party has survived previous defections and continues to enjoy strong grassroots support.
“Our people have remained with us, and by God’s grace, when elections come, they will show that the PDP is still solid,” he added.
