The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held President Bola Tinubu responsible for Nigeria’s poor ranking in the latest global terrorism index, blaming the administration’s failure to address the country’s worsening insecurity.
The Global Terrorism Index, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace, ranked Nigeria fourth worldwide, recording 750 terrorism-related deaths in 2025, a 46% increase from the previous year.
In a statement on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong said the ranking reflects the deteriorating security situation, with killings, kidnappings, and terror attacks continuing to rise despite repeated assurances from the All Progressives Congress-led government.
Ememobong described Nigerians as facing unprecedented insecurity under Tinubu’s administration, warning that criminal activities have turned into a “trillion-naira economy,” generating massive illicit profits for perpetrators.
He urged the President and security agencies to move beyond reactive, post-attack responses and adopt a comprehensive, society-wide approach to tackling insecurity.
The opposition party called for policies that achieve immediate “negative peace”, the cessation of violence, while building the foundation for “positive peace,” where citizens can coexist safely and freely.
The party reminded the government that protecting lives and property is the foremost duty of any administration, a responsibility he said the current leadership has failed to fulfill.
PDP called on President Tinubu to use his political expertise to implement effective, long-term solutions, stressing that Nigerians can no longer endure daily threats to their lives.
