Oyo police arrests two suspects over 62yr old woman’s murder

The Oyo State Police Command has taken two suspects into custody in connection with the killing of a 62-year-old woman whose body was discovered in the Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The suspects, identified as Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, were arrested following preliminary investigations and are currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

In a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, explained that the incident came to light after a resident alerted the police about a lifeless body found along a bush path within the community.

Officers who visited the scene reportedly found the woman lying in a pool of blood with a severe neck injury. Initial findings suggested that the body had been at the location for several days before being discovered.

The remains were immediately taken to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The area was secured to allow forensic experts to gather evidence relevant to the case.

Ayanlade added that, to ensure a thorough and discreet investigation, the matter was transferred to the State CID, where further inquiries led to the arrest of the two suspects, both residents of the community. Investigators are intensifying efforts to identify other individuals who may be linked to the crime.

The police spokesperson also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside senior government officials, visited the community to assess the situation and offer condolences to the bereaved family.

He said the CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate security deployments in the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The command appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against taking the law into their own hands, while assuring the public that all necessary steps are being taken to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure justice is served.
