Osimehn sets Galatasaray UCL goal record

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimehn, has etched his name in Galatasaray folklore after his goal against Juventus in the Champions League to become the foreign player with most goals for the Turkish club in the competition.

Osimhen, who was on 12 goals in the Champions League for Gala, scored the opening goal in the side’s resurgence after going 3-0 down and 5-5 on aggregate after a 5-2 win in the first leg match in Turkey, to take his tally to 13, more than any other player for the club, in a game his side later won 7-5 on aggregate to qualify for the knockout round.

The 26-year-old, who was on a tie with former strikers at the club, Czech Republic Milan Baros and Congolese Shabani Nonda, all on 12, pounced on a pass by teammate, Burak Yilmaz, and fired through the legs of opposition goalkeeper, Mattia Perin to make it 3-1 in extra time, for his 13th, during the game at the Juventus’ Alliance Arena on Wednesday.

Osimhen has now amassed seven goals in the ongoing campaign of the competition behind Kyllian Mbappe who is on 13, Newcastle’s United’s Anthony Gordon, 10, Harry Kane, 8 and in a tie with Erling Halland, who is also on seven.

The post player has now scored 35 goals for the club since he joined from Napoli in 2024
