Multiple truck accidents have occurred on the Otedola Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leaving one person dead and three others with varying degrees of injuries.
The incident took place after four articulated trucks laden with containers collided on the bridge, resulting in a significant gridlock that extended travel times for motorists.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the accident occurred on Tuesday after a container on one of the ill-fated truck fell on the road.
The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, while addressing newsmen after removing the fallen container, attributed the auto crash to over speeding by the tanker driver on the road.
“Tragically, one adult male was extricated from beneath one of the trucks and was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other adult males sustained various injuries.
“Of this injured number, two had seriously injured victims and received on-the-spot medical attention before being transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre.
“Emergency responders implemented necessary safety measures to prevent further incidents and successfully recovered all affected trucks from the roadway, allowing traffic to resume”, he added.
Other agencies involved in the rescue operations were the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and officials from the Nigeria Police Force.
