The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifon Ward 5, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in the state.
Following his abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted his family, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for the immediate release of the APC ward chairman.
Sources revealed that Adepoyigi was forcefully taken by the yet-to-be-identified assailants yesterday evening, at the entrance of his farm located along the Ifon-Owo Road.
It was gathered that Adepoyigi had gone alone to inspect weeding activities on his farm, located close to the roadside, when he was attacked and abducted by the armed men.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Olushola Ayanlade, stated that the command has launched a manhunt to track down the suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
“I can confirm to you that the chairman of APC Ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along Ifon-Owo Road,” Ayanlade said.
“At the receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ifon, in collaboration with hunters, VGN and Nigeria Army personnel, launched a manhunt for the suspect(s),” he said on Tuesday.
The police spokesman urged residents of nearby communities to report any useful information that could assist in the rescue operation.
He also advised citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency to support ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining safety and restoring calm to the area.
