Ahead of the Eid-ul-Kabir celebration, the Ogun State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety by deploying hundreds of specialized tactical units to strategic locations across the state.
The deployment, according to the Command, is part of proactive measures to prevent crime, ensure free movement, and maintain peace during the festive period.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, who disclosed this in a statement, noted that operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Anti-Cultism Unit, and other tactical forces will be stationed across major prayer grounds, markets, highways, and recreational centers during the Sallah period.
“This deployment is aimed at preventing any form of crime or threat to public safety during and after the Sallah celebrations,” CP Alamutu said. “We are determined to ensure that residents and visitors to Ogun State enjoy the festive period without fear.”
Key areas to witness increased patrols and surveillance include the Onigari axis, Sagamu Interchange, Ijebu-Ode, Ayetoro, Abeokuta metropolis, Long Bridge, and the Ogunmakin–Alapako corridor.
The police command also assured the public of round-the-clock patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-driven monitoring aimed at thwarting potential security threats, particularly those related to cult clashes, robbery, and kidnapping.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious movements through dedicated emergency lines, which will remain active throughout the festive period.
It further appealed to religious leaders to educate their congregations on peaceful conduct and adherence to the law, stressing that “freedom of worship must go hand-in-hand with public order.”
