Ogun Gov. casts blames on residents after COVID19 cases jump

Worried by reported community spread of coronavirus, the Ogun State Government has announced the extension of lockdown in the for another one week, thus bringing the extension to third of it series consecutively.

It explained that the additional one-week extension period was meant to identify, trace and isolate all individuals that have come into contact with confirmed cases, ensure treatment of confirmed cases while putting up stringent measures to mitigate community spread of the virus.

The State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said the extension had been a result of poor compliance of citizens with the lockdown measures imposed by the government which had contributed to rises in community spread of the virus.

Abiodun, while announcing the extension expected to lapse on May 24, 2020, noted that the current pattern of lockdown with relaxation windows from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday continue will continue with the new lockdown.

“In view of the evidence of community transmission and poor compliance with the lockdown measures, we are constrained to extend the lockdown by another week till Sunday 24th of May.

“We will continue to monitor the level of compliance with the lockdown measures and incidence of community transmission and hopefully, there will be positive developments that will enable us further ease the lockdown at the end of this new lockdown period,” he said.
