A Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been accidentally shot and killed by a fellow operative in the Life Camp area of Abuja.
The victim, Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Adekunle Emmanuel, was struck in the upper arm, just above the bicep, by a bullet reportedly discharged by a colleague by accident.
The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m., while the officers were reportedly en route from Corner View Hotel to a principal’s residence at Lias Estate.
According to a source, Emmanuel was pronounced dead upon arrival by medical practitioners at the Maitama General Hospital, where he was rushed after the incident.
“He was rushed to Maitama General Hospital immediately, but despite efforts to save him, he was confirmed dead upon arrival,” said an inside source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The deceased’s body has since been moved to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the officer who discharged the firearm has been taken into custody for questioning.
Although NSCDC authorities have yet to release an official statement, senior officers confirmed that an internal inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
“This is a painful loss to the corps. The matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness to ensure accountability and avoid recurrence,” the source added.
