NSCDC arrests four Kano residents for burglary

By Awoniyi Ademide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recorded another major breakthrough after arresting four notorious house burglars believed to be responsible for a series of break-ins and thefts that have left several neighbourhoods in Kano on edge.

This development comes just weeks after the Corps arrested 19 suspected vandals in a similar operation across several local government areas in the state.

The arrests were part of the NSCDC’s renewed efforts to curb burglary, vandalism, and theft in Kano communities.

According to the NSCDC, the suspected criminals had long been on its watchlist following multiple reports of house break-ins and stolen household items across both urban and rural communities.

The Corps disclosed that the suspects were arrested after weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance by its operatives.

The Kano State Command’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed on Friday that the four suspects were apprehended in Dambatta, Fagge, and Tarauni Local Government Areas after a series of targeted operations.

“Our operatives successfully arrested four notorious individuals who have been terrorising residents through repeated house break-ins,” he stated. “Each suspect has confessed to their involvement in these crimes.”

Abdullahi explained that the operation also led to the recovery of several stolen items, including nine mobile phones, three standing fans, three solar panels, a flat-screen television, a bicycle, and three car tyres.

Other items recovered were burglar-proof windows, electrical wires, MP3 speakers, a power bank, and various household valuables believed to have been stolen from multiple homes.

“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and national infrastructure. We want criminals to know that there is no hiding place for them in Kano State,” Abdullahi emphasised.

He further revealed that investigations into the case have been concluded and that the suspects will be charged in court soon.

The spokesperson also urged residents to remain security-conscious and support ongoing efforts by providing useful information that could help prevent crime.

“Security is everyone’s responsibility,” he added. “We appeal to members of the public to report any suspicious movements or persons to the nearest NSCDC office or any security agency.”
