The Nigerian Railway Corporation has expanded the frequency of services on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, citing rising passenger traffic and improved operational stability along one of the country’s busiest rail routes.
The adjustment is aimed at offering commuters additional travel options while improving efficiency, reliability and overall service delivery across the intercity network.
Management said the decision followed a steady recovery period after earlier setbacks that constrained operations and reduced available rolling stock.
In a statement issued by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation announced that the revised timetable will take effect from Friday, March 6, 2026.
The route had previously suffered disruptions after the March 28, 2022 bomb attack and the August 26, 2025 derailment, incidents that cut the number of operational train sets from three to one and necessitated Temporary Speed Restrictions for safety reasons.
Providing details of the new arrangement, the statement read, “Under the revised schedule, passengers travelling from Idu and Rigasa will now enjoy three trips on Fridays and Sundays, as well as on Saturdays and Mondays, while two trips will continue to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
It added, “Specifically. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Idu-Rigasa service departs Idu at 8:45 a.m and returns from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m,” while on Fridays and Sundays departures from Idu are scheduled for 7:45 a.m and 3:15 p.m, with Rigasa departures at 11:30 a.m.
The corporation further noted, “On Saturdays and Mondays, services depart Rigasa at 7:15 a.m and 3:00 p.m and from Idu at 11:00 a.m with all trains making scheduled stops at Kubwa,” urging passengers to take note of the changes and plan accordingly as it works to enhance safety and passenger experience.
