At least nine persons have sustained injuries following a clash between farmers and herders over usage of land for grazing in Nasarawa State community.
The farmers were said to have agitated against the herders use of their farmland for grazing, which resulted in a a battle between them, after which four herders and five farmers were injured and needing medical intervention.
The planters had accused the breeders of destroying their farms due to their grazing, including a damage on a cultivated plot which sparked anger by the residents in the community.
Sources disclosed that the brawl which happened yesterday in Bakono village, Loki area of the state became more intense before security operatives intervened to prevent further violence and restore calm and order.
The injured persons were taken to the General Hospital in Loko for medical attention, where hospital officials confirmed they were responding to treatment.
Community leaders were said to have made steps to ensure compromise between agitators. A local stakeholder said that a meeting had been convened to address grievances and prevent reprisals.
Meanwhile, both the police and the army have intensified patrols around the community with confidence-building measures ongoing, and the situation being closely monitored to ensure lasting calm.
