A Nigerian man, identified only as Chukwuma, has been arrested by operatives of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru, India, for allegedly peddling narcotics worth over ₹1.2 crore, approximately ₦214 million.
Chukwuma was apprehended during a raid in the Avalahalli area of northern Bengaluru, where he was reportedly attempting to distribute banned substances.
The raid, carried out by the Narcotics Wing of the CCB, followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized 600 grams of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, in both powder and crystal form.
The drugs are believed to have been sourced from international suppliers and were intended for distribution within Bengaluru and surrounding areas.
Investigations conducted by Indian authorities also revealed that the Nigerian national has been involved in drug trafficking since 2013.
Officials, who disclosed his arrest on Wednesday, alleged that Chukwuma played an active role in importing narcotics into India and supplying them to a wide network of local dealers.
Further investigations indicated that the suspect is linked to a larger international drug syndicate operating across several cities.
Chukwuma is currently in police custody and undergoing intensive interrogation to help authorities trace his associates and uncover the full scope of the trafficking network.
Meanwhile, officials reiterated their commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and urged landlords and residents to remain vigilant, especially regarding foreign nationals residing without valid documentation, and to report any suspicious activity.
