Nigeria has extended congratulations to Ghana on its 69th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the enduring diplomatic, cultural, and historical connections linking both West African nations and highlighting their shared commitment to democratic governance and regional stability.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, praised Ghana’s independence as a pivotal moment in Africa’s political evolution, noting that the achievement encouraged several countries across the continent, including Nigeria, to pursue sovereignty and national self-determination.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, therefore, joins the people of Ghana in celebrating this remarkable chapter in African history and in recognising Ghana’s enduring contributions to democratic governance, regional integration, and peaceful development on the continent,” he said.

In a message delivered to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Tuggar conveyed Nigeria’s goodwill as Ghana commemorated its liberation from colonial rule on March 6, 1957. The statement was released on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

He observed that Nigeria and Ghana maintain longstanding bonds rooted in shared history, cultural interaction, and common aspirations for prosperity, peace, and continental unity, with both nations playing influential roles in democratic advancement across West Africa.

According to the minister, the partnership between the two countries has expanded through consistent diplomatic engagements and collaboration across sectors such as trade, education, energy, defence, migration governance, and cultural exchange.

He further noted that cross-border mobility under regional frameworks has strengthened commercial links and social connections between citizens of both countries, deepening people-to-people relationships while promoting wider economic cooperation.

“As Ghana celebrates its independence this year under the theme ‘Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,’ Nigeria commends the resilience, creativity and determination of the Ghanaian people in advancing national development and strengthening democratic institutions,” Tuggar said.

The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen bilateral engagement through enhanced economic partnerships, diplomatic cooperation, and cultural interaction, expressing confidence that the relationship will continue supporting regional integration and a more peaceful, united Africa.
