The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Mohammed Sani, for the alleged murder of his pregnant wife, Hauwa Isah, in Minna, the state capital.
Sani was apprehended by the law enforcement agency after his 24-year-old pregnant wife was found lifeless in their home.
As gathered, Hauwa was discovered by neighbours, lying in a pool of blood inside their residence at Bani Hashimu Estate in the Limawa ‘A’ area of Minna.
The State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement released to newsmen on Friday.
According to Abiodun, “A distress call was received that one Hauwa Isah, 24 years, of Bani Hashimu Estate, Limawa ‘A’, Minna, was found lifeless, lying on the floor with blood stains in the room.”
“Officers from A Division, Minna, responded swiftly to the scene and took Hauwa to the General Hospital, Minna, where she was pronounced dead. Medical personnel also confirmed that she was due for delivery.
“Preliminary investigations identified her husband, Mohammed Sani, who resides at the same address, as the prime suspect.
“Neighbours have alleged a history of domestic abuse in the household, prompting police to take him into custody.”
He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation.
The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation and emphasized the importance of reporting domestic violence to prevent similar tragedies.
