Niger Gov. pushes for National Assembly zoning review after 2027

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has called for a review of the zoning formula for National Assembly seats across the state’s three senatorial districts, to be implemented after the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the call while receiving delegations from Suleja, Gurara, and Tafa Local Government Areas under the banner of the “Suleja Emirate First Agenda” at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja.

Bago said the review is necessary to ensure fairness and inclusiveness in the distribution of elective positions across the state, noting that the proposed changes cannot take effect before the next elections.

He explained that key All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders would deliberate on the matter and adopt a new arrangement following the 2027 polls.

The governor also appealed to residents for patience and understanding, urging elected officials to intensify efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy.

Earlier, the convener of the “Suleja Emirate First Agenda,” Yakubu Katamba, said the movement comprises 67 groups from Suleja, Gurara, and Tafa local government areas advocating for rotational representation within the zone.

Katamba commended Governor Bago’s leadership style and expressed confidence that the concerns raised by the group would receive due consideration.
