Nenadi Usman, Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, is set to formally take control of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, becoming the first female leader of a major Nigerian political party.
The secretariat, located in Utako District, Abuja, was previously controlled by the Julius Abure-led faction. Usman’s takeover follows a recent Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decision officially recognising her leadership and that of her team.
Preparations for the handover are underway, with a banner featuring Usman and acting National Secretary Senator Darlington Nwochocha displayed around the building, signaling the start of a new chapter for the party.
Party sources said the event will formally mark Usman’s assumption of duties and control of the secretariat, as supporters look forward to a structured transition aimed at consolidating her leadership.
