NDLEA arrests 56 drug peddlers in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano has intensified its crackdown on illegal drugs, arresting 56 suspected drug peddlers and dismantling several drug distribution points across the state.

The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command carried out a three-day operation targeting known drug hotspots where the suspects were apprehended.

The State Commander of the agency, Dahiru Lawal, said the raids were part of the ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” aimed at maintaining a drug-free environment during and after the Ramadan period.

NDLEA Kano spokesman, Sadiq Maigatari, disclosed that between February 6 and February 8, operatives focused on areas including Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa, and Sabon Gari.

“The operation was a continuation of earlier enforcement efforts designed to disrupt drug distribution channels and restore safety to affected neighbourhoods,” he quoted Lawal as saying.

During the operation, officers recovered various controlled substances, including cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, and pregabalin.

Lawal said the seizures represent a significant blow to local drug networks, noting the command’s determination to rid communities of illegal drugs.

He also revealed that one of the suspects, 30-year-old Yunusa Yasin from Badawa, is linked to a homicide case that occurred five years ago and has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

The commander reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving a drug-free Kano, in line with the agenda of the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, retired Brigadier-General Mohamed Marwa.

He also urged residents to provide timely information on drug-related activities to support ongoing enforcement efforts.
