The Senior Special Assistant to the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Enock Maku, has regained freedom five days after gunmen abducted him in Agyaragu, a community on the outskirts of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
Maku, a retired Director of Information and Protocol in the state judiciary, was kidnapped by gunmen alongside three other individuals during the attack.
On Monday, it was learnt that while two of the victims were rescued shortly after a police operation, Maku remained in captivity until yesterday when he regained freedom.
The judge’s aide was said to have regained freedom five days after the gunmen abducted him and the three others.
Family sources confirmed that he was released at about 11:00 p.m. yesterday and was immediately taken to a medical facility for evaluation. The circumstances surrounding his release remain unclear, and the family declined to comment on whether a ransom was paid.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said two of the victims were earlier rescued during a police confrontation with the kidnappers. He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
The incident is the latest in a string of high-profile kidnappings in Nasarawa State, where criminal gangs have increasingly targeted prominent individuals, including traditional rulers and public officials. The situation has intensified pressure on the state government and security agencies to enhance security across rural communities.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as security operatives ramp up patrols in vulnerable areas.
Maku, who is reportedly in stable condition, has since been reunited with his family. Meanwhile, investigations into the incident are ongoing.
