Nasarawa education boss demotes school headmaster for truancy

As part of measures to improve the standard of education in Nasarawa, the Chairman of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Muhammad Kassim, has demoted the headmaster of LGEA primary school, Tudun Abu, to a classroom teacher for often staying away from school without good reasons for his actions.

After demoting the head of the primary school in Lafia Local Government Area of the state, the SUBEB boss transferred him to Dunama Primary School, in order to serve as deterrent to other teachers still perpetrating the act.

Kassim, while justifying his actions, expressed displeasure upon being informed that the board director of Quality Assurance, accompanied by officials of the SUBEB commission to Abuja, did not find any teachers, including the headmaster, in seats during an assessment tour of the facility.

The SUBEB chairman, who was furious, promptly effected the transfer of the headmaster from Tudun Abu to Dunama Primary School and demoted him to a classroom teacher.

He emphasized that the board, under his leadership, will not tolerate truancy, stressing that all teachers must be available at all times during office hours.
