Muftwang imposes curfew on Plateau LG after 12 residents’ murder

The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a violent night attack by gunmen that left 12 residents dead.

The state government said the restriction on movement was introduced as an emergency security measure to prevent further violence, stabilise affected communities, and enable security agencies to track down those responsible for the killings.

According to the government, the curfew will allow security operatives to carry out their duties without interference while also discouraging potential retaliatory attacks that could worsen the situation.

Mutfwang, in a statement issued on Sunday, condemned the killings, which occurred on March 29, 2026, describing the attack as unacceptable and assuring residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Reports indicate that the attack took place in parts of Jos North Local Government Area, particularly around the Angwan Rukuba axis, where suspected gunmen opened fire on civilians gathered at a relaxation spot during the evening.

Residents said the assailants arrived unexpectedly and began shooting, leaving several people dead at the scene, while others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

“This act of violence is deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” Mutfwang said.

“The government is working closely with security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.”

He further urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as efforts intensify to restore order and prevent further loss of lives.

Meanwhile, security operatives have been deployed across the affected communities to enforce the curfew, maintain public safety, and support ongoing investigations.
