More suspects arrested over Lagos NURTW factions clash

The Nigeria Police, Lagos Command has confirmed the arrest of additional 45 persons  in connection with the clash between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Arrest of the 45 persons, after the 30 earlier arrested, increased number of suspects apprehended by the police to 75.

The 75 suspects were arrested by Rapid Response Squad (RRS), police officers from Area C Command and others in Ijesha, Surulele Local Government.

It was learned that the clash started on Sunday night has left about three persons dead and scores of residents with different degrees of injuries.

 

Confirming the deaths and arrest recorded, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, disclosed that investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to Court.
Elkana explained that on Sunday, “the Police received a distress call that there was a gun shot at Pako, Aguda Canal. On getting to the scene, Police found the corpse of one Alagodo ‘m’ 27 years old, a follower of one Eluku who is currently in prison over violent  crimes.
“On the 16/12/2019 at about 0830hrs some hoodlums from Ijesha, in what looks like a revenge mission stormed Aguda in large numbers with cutlasses, bottles and stone and other dangerous weapons.
“The hoodlums destroyed about 22 shops and vandalised some  vehicles.  Some hoodlums from Aguda equally reacted.  One of the hoodlums from Aguda known as Timileyin Odulana was injured by the hoodlums from Ijesha. He was rushed to military hospital Yaba, were he was confirmed dead.
“Meanwhile the Command has intensified patrols and surveillance within the affected areas”.
