Mob sets ablaze robber for aiding Abuja couple’s death

An angry mob in Abuja has set three suspected motor park touts ablaze after they were accused of causing the deaths of a couple.

The victims, who were travelling in a Toyota SUV, were reportedly attacked by the touts when they attempted to extort money from the driver.

As gathered, the driver refused their demands, prompting the suspects to forcefully grab the steering wheel, which led to a fatal crash on Mabushi Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to eyewitnesses, during the struggle, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a drainage channel, killing the man, his wife instantly.

Videos obtained yesterday showed residents capturing the three suspects, beating them, and dousing them with petrol before setting them on fire.

Eyewitnesses said the suspects and their group had been harassing motorists in the area for weeks.

One resident blamed their actions for the tragedy and called on FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to take decisive action to rid Abuja of motor park touts.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command had not released an official statement regarding either the fatal crash or the mob violence.
