By Awoniyi Ademide

A young man alleged to have attempted stealing a sheep from a residence in Bauchi State was lynched by an angry mob who took the law into their own hands.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Hussaini Adamu, was lynched after being caught by the house owners following a failed attempt to escape with the stolen sheep.

Adamu was reported to have confronted Ziladani Yahaya, the house owners after sneaking into the building to snatch the livestock, during which he allegedly stabbed him and his wife, Zakiya.

According to witnesses, the noise from the scuffle drew the attention of neighbours, who quickly descended on the suspect and beat him severely, leading to his death at the scene from the injuries he sustained.

Following the incident, neighbours placed a distress call to the police, who reportedly arrived at the scene almost immediately.

Upon arrival, officers from the Itas/Gadau Division in Bauchi took the injured victims to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Azare, while Adamu’s body was deposited at the General Hospital in Itas/Gadau.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday adding that that investigations are ongoing.

The Command also assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend individuals connected to the mob violence.
