The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Lagos State Command, has arrested one Ayo Adenupebi, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Akodo area of the state.
As gathered, the arrested suspect lives on the same street with the victims and also threatened the minor not to report the incident to anyone, including her parents.
But luck ran on Adenupebi after the victim summoned up courage to inform her sister who noticed a blood stain on her thigh around 7pm on October 1, 2021.
Confirming the development in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said that Adenupebi was arrested after the victim’s sister made a report about the incident at the Akodo Police Station.
He stated that detectives detailed to investigate the case of sexual assault arrested the suspect, adding that the victim had been taken to hospital for treatment.
“Following the report made at the Akodo Police Division by the victim’s father, detectives immediately arrested the suspect. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime but pleaded for leniency.
“The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution. Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
“The CP who condemned this criminal act, admonishes parents and guardians to keep an eye on their wards, particularly the female children, to avoid being sexually violated by shameless and irresponsible men preying on innocent female children in the neighbourhood,” the statement said.
