The Labour Party (LP), Lagos State chapter has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of a mob of armed men who attacked and vandalized its Secretariat in Ikeja.
LP’s appeal to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) came two days after gunmen invaded its office, with dangerous weapons and charms destroying facilities worth millions of Naira inside the premises situated at No 59, Oduduwa Way.
The party’s province Chairperson, Dayo Ekong, who called for a probe into the attack and prosecution of the perpetrators, stated that the armed men had stormed the building while its officials were in Abuja for the National Executive Council meeting.
Ekong alleged that the invasion was instigated by one Rasheed Bamishe, who according to her illegally and forcefully broke into the Secretariat alongside his goons damaging facilities caught in their sight.
In addition, the chairperson on Wednesday, mentioned that one of the Party’s officers was assaulted while sensitive documents and valuables worth hundreds of millions were carted away during the illegal operation.
“Five staff members were injured during the attack and are receiving medical treatment as I speak,” said Ekong.
She further stated that LP would not rest until justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to book, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
According to Ekong, “The attack was executed with support and sponsorship from certain influential Labour Party members in Lagos State. These individuals will be exposed in due time. We see no justification for this wicked and ill-intentioned assault on the party”
“The motive was to steal, injure, and possibly assassinate staff and leadership of the party through the criminal operation. Such conduct does not reflect LP values and would never be tolerated under my leadership”
“The LP is for dedicated, patriotic Nigerians committed to building an egalitarian society founded on rule of law and social justice. The Labour Party in Lagos will pursue lawful means to ensure these perpetrators and their backers face justice, no matter how highly placed.”
