Late civil servants risk dismissal – Anambra Gov.

By Helen Okoli.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has warned that civil servants who fail to report to their duty posts on time risk losing their jobs, following an unannounced inspection of the state secretariat that revealed numerous empty seats during official working hours.

The surprise visit was aimed at enforcing discipline, boosting productivity, and sending a strong message against laxity amid ongoing efforts to reclaim the state from forces of lawlessness and economic sabotage.

In a video shared by the Anambra State New Media team on Thursday, the governor was seen moving through several offices, visibly displeased as he queried officials present and demanded explanations for the absence of their colleagues.

The unscheduled nature of the visit reportedly caught many workers off guard, causing panic across several departments.

“By 10 a.m., if they are not in their seats, we don’t need them!” Soludo declared, emphasizing that his administration would no longer tolerate actions he described as deliberately aimed at crippling the state’s economy.

“It’s now calculated economic sabotage to bring down Onitsha, to bring down Nnewi, to bring down the economy of the state and I will tell you what: you can do that with any other person, but not with this governor standing here,” the governor said.

He stressed his determination to restore order, declaring, “We are determined on behalf of the Anambra people. We must take back our state. We are going to take back our state, whatever it costs. We are determined. It’s not yet 100%.”

Soludo also sought to reassure residents about the security situation, highlighting intensified operations against criminal groups across the state.

“We are still launching massive onslaughts on these criminal elements in our state. And Anambra is currently, without any doubt, one of the safest states in Nigeria,” he said.

“Those who claim to be the safest, even the enemy will agree that we’re one of the safest states in Nigeria,” Soludo added.
