Frustrated by continuous blackouts and inconsistent power supply in parts of the state, youths in Lagos staged a protest on Thursday, calling for improvements to electricity services.
The protest, which took place in the Fadeyi area of the state, followed weeks of unreliable power supply, which business owners said had increased their expenses and left them with significant debts from sourcing alternative power.
Participants also raised concerns about rising electricity tariffs, noting that the quality of power supply has not matched the rates paid to distribution companies.
In a video circulating on social media, protesters were seen carrying placards with messages such as “No light, no life, no nation” and “You’re destroying, killing so many businesses; give us regular light.” Some also voiced their concerns verbally during the march.
The demonstration reflects broader frustrations across the country, where Nigerians have repeatedly complained about unreliable electricity supply and urged the government to take action. Many residents noted that they continue to pay for electricity even as power disruptions persist.
