Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce have arrested four traders for obstructing traffic at the Falomo Under Bridge, as authorities intensified enforcement against the resurgence of illegal street trading in the area.
The arrest followed a late-night follow-up operation carried out around 10 p.m., during which operatives revisited the location after receiving reports that traders had returned to the site despite an earlier clearance exercise.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the development in a statement shared via his social media handle on Wednesday, reiterating the government’s resolve to maintain order across public spaces.
He disclosed that the suspects were apprehended as part of sustained enforcement efforts aimed at eliminating illegal street trading, which poses risks to public safety and contributes to traffic congestion on major roads and highways.
Wahab further noted that the arrested individuals would be charged to court in accordance with the law, stressing that enforcement operations would be consistently carried out to deter violations.
The commissioner added that the taskforce would continue to monitor the Falomo Under Bridge and other critical locations across the state to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and prevent a recurrence of such activities.
