Lagos pastor defends arm tattoo amid criticism

Responding to public criticism over his decision to get a tattoo, the Founder and Lead Pastor of David’s Christian Centre (DCC), Kingsley Okonkwo, has argued that there is no scriptural prohibition against tattoos for Christians.

The comments come in the wake of a viral video showing the popular relationship coach receiving a tattoo, which sparked debate on social media about whether body art is appropriate for Christian leaders.

Speaking in an interview and on social media, Pastor Okonkwo explained that opposition to tattoos is often rooted in personal preference, church tradition, or individual interpretation rather than scripture.

“There’s no scripture that says a child of God cannot have tattoos,” he said, noting that critics have not pointed to any clear biblical or scientific evidence to label tattoos as sinful.

He further cautioned against imposing personal convictions on others under the guise of spirituality, describing such judgments as outdated and unhelpful.

Okonkwo emphasized that a person’s faith and character are not defined by their outward appearance, including body markings.

The pastor’s statement has reignited a broader discussion within religious communities about faith, scriptural interpretation, and contemporary expressions of spirituality.

While some believers maintain that tattoos contradict biblical teachings, others argue for individual conscience and highlight the absence of explicit prohibitions in Christian doctrine.

Okonkwo’s stance has attracted both praise and criticism, reflecting ongoing tensions between tradition and modern expressions of personal identity within faith communities.
