Lagos Neighbourhood boss hinges effective community policing on grassroots support

The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), Ifalade Oyekan, has stated that sustaining the high standard of security achieved across the state through community police intervention depends on the participation and cooperation of residents.

Oyekan stressed that security is a shared responsibility and cannot be left solely to government agencies.

Meanwhile, he charged the personnel to rededicate themselves towards boosting the level of security across the state through their intelligence gathering and prompt response to crime alerts.

Oyekan made this assertion yesterday at the Agency’s 2025 End-of-Year Thanksgiving, where he urged Lagosians to remain vigilant and security-conscious, particularly during the festive season.

According to him, meaningful community cooperation remains the backbone of intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and rapid response, noting that residents’ willingness to collaborate with neighbourhood safety officers is critical to sustaining peace across the state.

Reviewing the Agency’s performance in 2025, the LNSA boss highlighted key milestones recorded during the year, including the continued professionalisation of the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the procurement of modern technological tools to enhance operations, the acquisition of landed properties, and the establishment of additional command offices to improve operational reach and efficiency across Lagos.

Oyekan attributed these achievements to the unwavering support of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, whom he described as deeply committed to building a safe, peaceful, and habitable Lagos.

He noted that the Governor’s consistent provision of logistics, operational equipment, and institutional backing has strengthened the Agency’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.

He also commended members of the LNSA Management Team and specialised units for their dedication and professionalism, acknowledging their role in driving the Agency’s successes in 2025.

While appreciating their efforts, Oyekan charged them to raise performance standards and deliver even greater results in the coming year.

The End-of-Year Thanksgiving programme featured educational and inspirational sessions aimed at reinforcing professionalism, teamwork, and service delivery.

Officers and personnel described the event as morale-boosting and impactful, renewing their commitment to community safety and grassroots-driven policing across Lagos State.
