The suspended Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos State, Jelili Sulaimon, has alleged that his suspension by the Lagos State House of Assembly emanated after refusing to hand over Iyana Ipaja market revenues to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abiodun Ejigbadero.
Jelili said that his suspension was to allow Ejigbadero, who was alleged to often engage in land grabbing, to take over Iyana Ipaja market revenue collection from the council.
The suspended chairman disclosed this while addressing residents and supporters who had stormed the council secretariat yesterday to show their solidarity to Jelili and requested that the lawmakers reverse their decision.
“I was suspended because they asked me to hand over Iyana Ipaja Market tolls and revenue to Ejigbadero.
“There is no need to twist facts because I could sense that the Lagos Government already trying to twist the facts and facts must not be twisted.
“The cause of the suspension is that I am directed by the Lagos State House of Assembly to give the revenue and market tolls of Iyana Ipaja market to Mr Abiodun Ishola Ejigbadero. There is a written document to that fact and that is the basis of the suspension.
“The second thing is that they claim Abiodun Ishola Ejibaduro is the owner of all land from Iyana Ipaja to Idimu”, the suspended chairman revealed.
Ejigbadero made headlines in May 2023 when he was remanded by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, Lagos State for suspected land-grabbing, fraud, and theft.
The chairman, House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sanni Okanlawon, while moving a motion on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly for Jelili’s suspension, recalled that in April 2024, pandemonium broke out in the Iyana-Ipaja axis of Alimosho Local Government leading to the death of one Micheal Ajayi.
Okanlawon, whose committee was saddled with the responsibility to investigate the cause of the pandemonium, said it was discovered that Jelili masterminded the chaos.
He claimed that all relevant parties were invited to participate, but Jelili continued to exhibit inappropriate behavior towards the House committee.
He highlighted the suspended council chairman’s alleged failure to adhere to the Assembly’s directives and mismanagement of public funds.

Lagos State Assembly is only scheming to make a joke of President Tinubu autonomy drive for Local Government. The Governor is further acting in a manner that he is not in charge of affairs of the state.
Also, the Time is indeed right to stop all forms of legislative rascality against constitutional provisions.
The appropriate body to whom the Executive Chairman of a Local Government is responsible to is the Councillors that constitute the Assembly of that Local Government. The Law is clear enough.
I like reading through an article that will make men and women think.
