Lagos Govt. warns against enrolling children in unapproved daycare centres

The Lagos State Government has warned parents and guardians against patronizing unapproved daycare centres across the state after a 3years old girl was defiled at the Creche she attends.

It said that patronizing approved centres would give their children higher protection from been sexually molested within the premises.

The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, gave the warning after the man identified as Nonso was remanded by the Samuel Ilori Court, Ogba for allegedly commiting defilement in Ikotun axis of the state.

The Court ruled that the perpetrator be remanded till February 14, 2023 pending Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) legal advice.

During proceedings at the Samuel Ilori Court, Ogba, the Survivor’s mother recounted her daughter’s defilement ordeal while at the Daycare centre.

The case was reported by the mother of the Survivor at the DSVA and the agency’s DSVA Field Operations Officers incidented the case at the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Ikotun, Police Station swung into action immediately.

It was learnt DPO Ojajuni of Ikotun Police Station said the suspect was already in custody, briefing the DSVA team that the perpetrator would be arraigned before court to serve as a deterrent to others planning to commit such crime across the state.

Vivour-Adeniyi stated that the residents need to collaborate with the Task force on Safeguarding and Child protection which comprises Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Office of Education and Quality Assurance and Lagos State DSVA by reporting cases.

The DSVA boss, through a statement by the agency’s Public Affairs Officer, Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, further stated that residents in the State should be assured that perpetrators of such heinous crimes would be prosecuted.
